Lake Manly in Bad Water Basin forms after months of higher than normal rainfal.

The Borrowed Sea

Lake Manly, Death Valley National Park

Lake Manly is a body of water that forms temporarily when Death Valley Receives unusually large amounts of rainfall during autumn and winter.  2026 was a great year for super blooms and lakes in Death Valley, specifically around Bad Water Basin. On a cold February morning, I took this photo of Lake Manly from Dante's View. Photo © copyright by David Farag.
